Tactical Frivolity + Rhythms of Resistance Film Screening

It has been a hot minute since we had our last session! The past month we supported and participated in the Woonopstand that left us full of hope for the solidarity we all experienced but also full of anger and frustration for the criminal police brutality witnessed and endured.
For this session we want to heal and rejoice with a film screening of Tactical Frivolity + Rhythms of Resistance (2007) following ROR’s strategies of joyful resistance during September 2000 Prague protest that countered the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. “Tactical frivolity sought to undo classical anarchists vs. police, one-to-one confrontational tactics, by multiplying frontlines and making an extremely ironic use of femininity and kitschy representations of the body in direct action.” We will discuss the relationship between resistance and frivolity and explore protest as a moment of study.
As always, we will start with some food, so bring along snacks or drinks if you are able to contribute. There will be popcorn and hot drinks throughout the session.
Anti-Gentrification School is a school in process, with a grassroots curriculum built for and by cultural workers, neighbours, students and residents to collectively learn, unlearn and develop clear tactics and strategies to resist gentrification within our communities. We all have something to share and something to learn. Bring your concerns, questions, stories and experiences so we can start mapping our complicity and entanglement in the process of gentrification.

Het is alweer een tijdje geleden sinds onze laatste sessie! De afgelopen maand hebben we deelgenomen aan de Woonopstand die ons vol hoop achterliet voor de solidariteit die we allen hebben ervaren, maar ook vol woede en frustratie over het criminele politiegeweld dat we hebben gezien en doorstaan.
Voor deze sessie willen we helen en ons verheugen met een filmvertoning van Tactical Frivolity + Rhythms of Resistance (2007) naar aanleiding van ROR’s strategieën van vreugdevol verzet tijdens het Praagse protest in september 2000 dat de jaarlijkse vergadering van de Wereldbank en het Internationaal Monetair Fonds tegenging. “Tactische frivoliteit trachtte klassieke anarchisten vs. politie, één-op-één confrontatietactieken ongedaan te maken, door frontlinies te vermenigvuldigen en een extreem ironisch gebruik te maken van vrouwelijkheid en kitscherige voorstellingen van het lichaam in directe actie.” (Vertaald uit het Engels). We zullen het hebben over de relatie tussen verzet en frivoliteit en we zullen protest onderzoeken als een moment van studie.
Zoals altijd beginnen we met wat eten, dus breng snacks of drankjes mee als je een bijdrage kunt leveren. Er zullen popcorn en warme drankjes zijn gedurende de sessie.
Anti-Gentrification School is een school in proces, met een grassroots curriculum gebouwd voor en door culturele werkers, buren, studenten en bewoners om collectief te leren, af te leren en duidelijke tactieken en strategieën te ontwikkelen om ons te verzetten tegen gentrificatie binnen onze gemeenschappen. We hebben allemaal iets te delen en iets te leren. Breng je zorgen, vragen, verhalen en ervaringen mee, zodat we kunnen beginnen met het in kaart brengen van onze medeplichtigheid en verstrikking in het proces van gentrificatie.
Toegankelijkheid info: Het gebouw is semi-toegankelijk voor rolstoelen. De ingang heeft een paar treden maar er kan een doe-het-zelf oprijplaat worden voorzien.
